Asana | Taking A Look At The Project Organization Solution Our Team Depends On

Marketing isn’t always a solo activity—in fact, today’s marketing industry is full of teams of individual contributors working together to provide great services from across the room, across the country, and across the world. With the advent of apps like Slack and Zoom, it’s easier than ever to communicate with teammates as you collaborate on projects. So, what happens when you have more projects and more tasks than you can keep straight?

IF YOU’RE ANYTHING LIKE THE LYONS CREATIVE TEAM, YOU TURN TO ASANA.

Asana creators Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein used to work at Facebook together, so they know how important coordination can be. They founded Asana to help collaborators organize projects and tasks, and ultimately spend less time on behind-the-scenes admin work. Since we’ve started using their tool, our team has enjoyed increased visibility regarding the status of projects, and fewer time-consuming meetings and one-off emails about new tasks.

SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

Each member of the team has their own homepage, which features a list of tasks that are due soon, as well as links to recent projects. When you click on a task that has not been completed, you get a bunch of information displayed in an easy-to-read format. At a glance you can see the assignee, due date, any subtasks, and a description of the task.

Any necessary documents can be uploaded by the assignee or the creator of the task. This eliminates the extra step of emailing the finished product—just upload it directly and the task creator will be notified. You can also message them with questions or updates along the way. All posts within a task are time-stamped, making it easy to keep track of any changes along the way.

When you’ve completed a task, just click the little checkmark and it will migrate to your completed tasks. The task’s creator gets immediate notification, and you get the endorphin rush of checking another successful project off your to-do list!

TAKE YOUR REMOTE TEAMWORK TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

While Asana is useful for in-person teams, it’s especially helpful for people collaborating remotely. You can’t just walk down the hall and stick your head into a coworker’s office to ask for an update, but you can post in the Asana task and get an answer just as quickly.

Got a new asset from the client that’s relevant to an active task? There’s no need to call a meeting and eat up valuable scoped hours. Just take a second to upload it and write up any relevant notes.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE VALUES.

If you’re anything like our team, you care about the values of the companies you rely on. In addition to offering an easy-to-use solution, Asana cares about the all the right things. We love their emphasis on mission, clarity, co-creation, giving and taking responsibility, mindfulness, being real with yourself and others, and prioritizing meaningful experiences.
